Closet Organization Tips via Lucky Magazine

First things first: we have a winner for the MilesOfLight giveaway: JULIE of Julip Made! Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway!

I read this article a few weeks ago, and for the last two weeks I've meant to write a post on it. Clearly, I'm suffering from mashed-potato-brains with everything that's going on right now!!

I've written about closet organization before, and if we weren't leaving this home in a few months I'd be working on turning our third spare bedroom into a BIG closet right now. Sigh.. I did tear out this article and put it in my "inspiration binder" -right next to my "I'm-the-biggest-geek-in-the-world" folder. *I don't really have a folder with that label; the binder though: true story. Even though I won't be applying any of these tips immediately, some of you might be able to, and besides, who doesn't love to look at a beautifully organized closet?!

If you're anything like I am, then you're in equal awe of the rug (from ABC Carpet) as you are the closet. How fun is the step ladder by the way?

An "outfit inspiration" board seems impractical for a closet, which is precisely why I love it. I think the editors/stylists should have added a vase with flowers to make it over-the-top impractical. Then I'd really be excited... :) *Stop rolling your eyes, Dad.

Drawer divider. Now this is actually practical. I'm not sure why I haven't done this yet.

They used bookends to divide the handbags and LED lights. Great ideas!!!

Have you undergone any closet organizing lately? I'd like to say that it's about time to move my winter clothes to the back of the closet and the warmer things to the front. Yes, I'd really love to, but with 34 degree temperatures outside, that seems more impractical than having a vase full of flowers in my closet!!!

Organization Domination: Wardrobe Editing

I spent the majority of Sunday organizing and editing my closets. We don't have any walk-in closets in our house, so I'm currently using three separate ones. As a result I oftentimes end up forgetting what I have. I've thought about turning the smallest bedroom into a huge closet with rolling racks and a large shoe rack. I'm still debating it, but in the mean time my closets all needed organized. Warning: our closets are all small and hard to photograph:

 Hello Boring Work Suits:

As for the editing, over the last year I've been clearing out items that I haven't worn in six months or longer. I found a great consignment shop (thanks, Amira!) that pays the seller half of the selling price. In the process I've realized I tend to hang on to clothing for sentimental purposes (i.e. I have fond memories  and attach the outfit I wore to those memories). I've been trying to break myself of this habit, so every few months I go back through my closets and think hard about why I'm keeping an item. It's a rather process lucrative as well!!

Headed for the consignment shop this week:

I've finally started narrowing down the items to my most favorite pieces and the ones I wear frequently. Do you edit your wardrobe on a regular basis? If so, do you have any tips?

On a side note, does anyone know of any stylish rolling racks if I do turn the third spare bedroom into a huge closet (preferably stylish AND affordable). Right now we have three spare bedrooms, so I have the room to do it, but my concern is that when we eventually have children one room will become a nursery, so the third spare bedroom will actually be needed.

Whenever I see images bedrooms-turned-closet it's hard to resist. Remember Lizzie Carney's??

Thoughts??!!!

Organization Domination: Magazines!

With the start of the new year and the weather being dreadful, I've been trying to organize odds and ends around the house and get rid of things that aren't being used. First on my list to tackle was all of my magazines. I had piles of them throughout the house. I was starting to feel like a hoarder! Enter Wal-Mart. I've actually been having some luck at Wal-Mart over the last few months!!  I purchased nine magazine holders and a few other boxes as well. Et voila! Magazines = Organized!

I still have plenty of space for a few months too

I'm using the other two boxes for random photos for now.

I used these document boxes to store the cards and notes I've received over the last few years.

They're pretty cute and extremely cheap!!

Have a wonderful weekend! My plans include:

Eating these:

Drinking this:

And heading to the Scott Antique Market tomorrow with my sister! Hopefully I'll have some great photos to post of our treasure-hunting adventure!

XOXO,

Kelly
