Chic and CHEAP

Last week I popped in Wal-Mart for a few odds and ends. I know, I know, most people are not fond of Wal-Mart for home items. I have had a little luck there over the last few months though. Remember the placemats??  I'm loving their Better Homes and Gardens line- at least for candle holders!

If you've ever seen my "Table Setting of the week" posts, then you've most likely seen these candle holders. They're available in three sizes:

Other items of interest:

Their HomeTrends line has a few fun pieces as well:

Each of these pillows is $5. Yes, you read correctly. $5.

Katie Brown's line at Meijer has a few great pieces as well:

I might have to pick these up at some point.... for "work" purposes (i.e. Table Setting of the Week).

So, what do you think?! Have you found any chic and cheap finds recently??

Get Gwyneth's Look

Since the Grammy's I have not been able to get Gwyneth's pink feather earrings out of my mind!!! Of course they're not for everyday wear, but I still would love to own a pair. The ones that Gwyneth wore are out of my price range, but I did find two inexpensive options!

I'd snip the leather string and beads off these puppies, and they'd be good to go!

Am I crazy for obsessing over these earrings?? I don't think so, but then again, I'm the grown adult that loves tutus (thanks for putting up with me, Christopher).

Dear Wal-Mart:

I wanted to take a minute and write you a letter of apology. I know we've had our differences in the past, and I've never really had anything nice to say about you. For that, I'm sorry. Surprisingly, I've been really happy with a few of your Hometrends items lately, and I wanted to let you know!

I'm loving the orange geometric rug and hand towels I picked up a few months ago.

I'm even more excited about the animal print placemats I purchased today: $3 each! They come in a dark color as well!

Keep up the good work, Wal-Mart. We aren't best friends yet or anything, but I'm proud of you!

XOXO,

Kelly

Faux Bamboo Nightstands

It's no secret that I love (i.e. am obsessed with)bamboo furniture. I've mentioned it here, here, and here. Tonight my "collection" of bamboo furniture got a little bit bigger. Using a Visa gift card that I got through work, I was able to purchase a set of faux bamboo night stands via ebay. They're in great condition, but they'll need to be painted (glossy white most likely) and possibly some new hardware.
Please excuse my two-tone wall. I'm in the middle of painting!!

via Williams-Sonoma Home. Beautiful!!

I'm not certain if I'll change the hardware or not. Here's a pull from Restoration Hardware that I love though!

Depending on my mood and how much painting I have left to do in the living room and entryway I might start sanding and priming these guys!!

XOXO,

Kelly

Fabric Love

I've been searching the web for inexpensive fabric by the yard. At some point I would like to reupholster a chair that Christopher bought after graduating college. I would also like to find two wingback chairs that I can reupholster for our living room.

One website that I found is Lewis and Sheron Textile Co. They have some great prints at inexpensive prices. Here are a few of my favorite:

I think a lot of these would make great pillows! I also would like to find a square tufted ottoman like this one from Ballard Designs to recover and use as a coffee table for our family room:

Hope you're having a great week!

XOXO,
Kelly

Recent HomeGoods goodies!

I have three HomeGoods stores in Columbus, and I stop into at least one of them once a week. I love HomeGoods for it's prices, but also for their unique selection of products. All of my candles and soaps are from HG:

*This is one of my favorite cabinets in the house; it always makes me happy to open it and look inside!!

Over the last few months though, I've found a lot of things for the house as well...

2 of these lamps for our nightstands...

..this pedestal table, which reminds me a lot of this one from Pottery Barn that I wanted so badly...

Two Chinoiserie vases ($7.99 each)...

and this mirror for our entry, which resembles the Eagan mirror from Pottery Barn.

Our house is FAR from finished, but when I think about how it looked just a few months ago, it's come a long way! I'm so glad that stores like HomeGoods exist to help me (and keep me within budget)!!!

XOXO,

Kelly

Big Savings at Ballard Designs!!

Two weekends ago I was down in Cincinnati for my cousin's wedding. I posted earlier about my discovery of a Ballard Designs outlet in Ohio. Because the hotel where I stayed was literally 1.8 miles from the outlet I of course had no choice but to go.... and all I can say is thank GOD I did!! Apparently two to three times a year they offer an additional 50% off every item in the store. As fate would have it, I was there on one of those very special days!!!!

Although I wanted many, many things, I stayed true to my law school budget (which I despise) and left spending under $400 ($395 to be exact).

Here's my loot:

The Louisa Bergere Chair and Ottoman: Full price I would have paid $958, but with all the discounts I paid around $320.

I also purchased the Macau Arm Chair in White: Full price I would have paid $249, but I only paid $65.
I wish I'd had a U-Haul and an endless supply of funds, but it's probably better that I didn't because I was so blinded by a great price that I most likely would have come home with things that I didn't love.

I'll post pictures of where these pretties end up soon!

XOXO,

Kelly
