Ladies and gentlemen, today is a good great day! I can finally say that I am the proud owner of a brass faux bamboo bar cart! As I mentioned before, I had been searching high and low (multiple times a day) on Craigslist, Ebay, and Goodwill stores for one. On Thursday night last week I was searching Craigslist when I finally found one!!! It wasn't exactly what I had been looking for, but it was close enough- especially when you consider it was priced at $50!!
Thanks to everyone who left me kind words of encouragement! I tried to make it into as "fun" of a road trip as possible. Here's how it went down:
I travelled 173 miles upstate for this baby. The trip took me nearly five hours (I shaved off about an hour thanks to my lead foot). I passed the time with a play list that included the likes of: N Sync, Coldplay, Billy Joel, and one of my new favorite groups:
I spent all morning on Sunday cleaning the cart. The brass had little speckles of discoloration all over it. I used Brasso, Bar Keeper's Friend, "goop" recipes, and soapy water. Wow! It was a lot of work. It's not perfect still, but it's good enough for now!
I'm not done styling it yet either. I'd like to find a different tray to go on the top shelf (maybe tortoise shell or faux python) and some other fun things. Did I mention I already have a wine bar? I stole some accessories from it, but I feel bad leaving the poor guy empty! Suggestions?! Let me know what you think!

ReplyDeleteHi Kelly,
ReplyDeleteJust stumbled across your post and I'm curious about what cleaning method you found worked best. I just bought an antique faux bamboo cart as well (!) and it has speckles of discoloration all over. Any good recommendations for cleaning?? Thanks!
Can you help me find one! I've also been searching high and low! Thanks looks great!
