Burl wood

I've had burled wood on the brain after seeing Jonathan Adler's Bond Collection:

This weekend I came really close to owning a burl wood console.  The table was listed for $50, so Christopher and I checked it out Sunday evening. Upon inspecting it I found two chips, one on the top corner and one on a leg; because it's veneer you could see the particle board (or whatever it is) underneath. They were small chips, but I wasn't willing to pay $50 for it, and the seller wasn't willing to come down in price.

Did I make a mistake?? Should I call the seller up and tell her I had a temporary moment of insanity?

  2. I think it depends on what type of person you are. Me, I'd just notice the chips every time I looked at it. That type of wood is beautiful though!

  3. If your gut told you not to buy it, then that's probably the right decision! But I agree with Rachel above-- for me, if I'm buying a vintage piece for really cheap, I don't mind if there are a few scratches and chips.

LOVE burlwood too...and mixed with Lucite is really the best thing ever!

  4. It's really hard to put a price on vintage. Each person sees something different and price really reflects taste.
