Over the weekend I watched Conan O'Brien's commencement speech to the graduating class at Darmouth. You can read it/watch it here. I've never been a huge Conan fan; I have nothing against him. I just go to bed really early, so I've never watched his show. After watching his speech, though, I've officially been converted. That man can write, and I LOVE a good writer!! He's an excellent communicator as well; I was shocked at how quickly and eloquently he was able to speak without stuttering. The advice he gave was pretty good too (and hilarious, of course).
My favorite part of his speech: "today I tell you that whether you fear it or not, disappointment will come. The beauty is that through disappointment you can gain clarity, and with clarity comes conviction and true originality."
There's a lot of "life" happening in the Frankel home right now. It's like a roller coaster of emotions: fun/scary/exciting/stressful/impossible all at once. I'm doing my best to take it in stride and not be afraid. If you're looking for something inspirational and hysterical to take your mind off whatever is actually going on in your life, I'd start with Conan.
I think Conan is an ivy league man (Harvard I believe) Though he is funny he is a truly smart and educated man. I love him for that and I adore his show.

ReplyDeleteOk, I have been meaning to watch his speech for a while and this post reminded me to do so. Just finished and I LOVE IT. So funny, so heartfelt, and with wonderful advice at the end. It's great to remember that our paths don't always go the way we think they will, and that's okay.
