Lamp "Face Lift"

I purchased this lamp from Target shortly after I graduated college. I've had it in storage for awhile though because it is so B-O-R-I-N-G. After loving the way my "Halloween" chair turned out, I decided to try spray painting the lamp.

Here are the results:
*Thank goodness we have plenty of boxwood for all the clippings I steal!!

I think I'm going to find a cute trim to put around the base of the shade. I'll keep you posted!!!

"Halloween Chair"

I painted the chair yesterday. It's not staying in this room, but I thought I should have it sitting out for Halloween!

I've decided I want to have a masquerade party next year.....

Channeling Franz Kline...

I mentioned here that I have a big, fat wall that's begging for art. I've also explained numerous times that our money tree is a little.... crispy right now. When I saw these images from Kevin Sharkey's apartment in the September issue of Martha Stewart Living my wheels started turning.

These paintings are inspired by the work of Franz Kline, an American Abstract Expressionist. When most people hear "Abstract Expressionism", they immediately think "Jackson Pollock". I do too, to some extent, but I've always loved Kline's paintings. Here are a few of them:

Franz Kline, Orange Outline, 1955

Franz Kline, Painting Number 2, 1954

Franz Kline, Suspended, 1953

I'm not naive (or dumb enough) to think that I can just go buy a canvas and some paint and become a Kline-clone, but my wall has been naked for too long, and if I wait until I can afford even a "Franz-inspired" painting, I'll be waiting for a LONG time, so I'm going to give this a try. I'll keep you posted, even if it ends in complete disaster. :)

Decorating with Trays

Great for holding your go-to beauty products:

On your bedside table...

In the Guest Bathroom...

Where you eat your meals...

... and do your cooking...

I have trays all over as you can see. They're perfect for me because I like everything in the house to have a specific "place" or "home". With the exception of the tray where I keep my oil and vinegar jars, I just noticed that every single other tray contains some type of plant or vase. Funny how I didn't realize that before... I guess it speaks to my consistency (and predictability) :).

Wingback Chairs

I LOVE wingback chairs! They have a classic and traditional style, which is right up my alley. I check Craigslist for them daily. In our living room we currently have a leather sofa that Christopher bought right out of college; I do like it, but I would love to store it in the basement and put two wingback chairs in its place. Here are some fun ones:

Of course I love the white, painted legs. The piping is fantastic as well!

Here is the type of before/after I'm envisioning if I find a suitable pair on Craigslist:

Wow.. combining two favorites: Wingbacks and Suzani fabric:

Here's a pair that I keep eyeing on Craigslist:

*How fun would it be to upholster the sides of back of the chair in a different fabric like here:

As Promised...

Here are the painted pumpkins so far. I'm one short: Luca took the liberty of eating a pumpkin. I will not explain the consequences of a dog consuming an entire pumpkin, except to say that I will never look at pumpkin pie the same way.

I have a few more that I spray painted black and need to finish with gold paint. More pics to come later!

XOXO,

Kelly
