Light Switcheroo

About a year ago I got really luck and found this beautiful chandelier at the Pottery Barn Outlet. It was a total steal, and we were in need of a new entryway light. I didn't think too much of it when we first installed it, but once a few of our taller friends and family members came to visit and knocked their heads on the crystal balls, I realized we had a problem.

Fast forward one year: I finally found a semi-flush mount that I like! It's really difficult, I've learned, to find flush and semi-flush lights that are aesthetically appealing and reasonably priced!

Before:
*I'd like to officially apologize one last time to anyone who has bonked their head on my crystal ball chandelier!!!

AFTER:
The moravian star pendant obviously doesn't give off as much light (1 bulb vs. 5), but it makes up for it in character!!!

I laid on the floor to take this shot; I love the pattern it casts on the ceiling. Luca was jumping on me and licking my face at this point, so I'm pretty impressed with how this shot turned out!

In case you're wondering where the Bellora light is now:

It's not really this bright; I'm just terrible with lighting and photography!

Happy Friday!!!!

XOXO,

Kelly

When the Wife's Away...

...the dining room table gets destroyed.

Last week I had a dinner for work and didn't get home until a little after 10. I went straight to bed. The next morning, while making coffee, I wandered into the dining room to take a look at my mini-makeover and think about what still needed done. I was imagining sconces flanking our buffet when to my horror I notice this:

I stood there for a moment, frozen and silent, wondering what on earth could have happened. Overzealous cleaning lady? Some sort of dragon clawed his way across the table? Then I unfroze and screamed, "CHRISTOPHER!!!"

"WHAT IS THIS?," I asked. His eyes bulged, seeing the scratches. "Oh, umm... I put Luca on the table last night, but I didn't know she would scratch it."

I then asked how he didn't notice scratch marks like that taking place, to which he replied, "Well, I just put her on the table and walked out of the room. I wanted to see if she would jump from that height." I'm speechless- still. One week later. Oh well, what's done is done. Time to move forward.

Perhaps the silver lining is that now we are forced to refinish our table and chairs, which I wanted to do anyways.

Here are there table and chairs in their current state:

I came across these photos and LOVE the idea of all black chairs:

Unfortunately, I doubt we will be able to fix the scratches or paint and reupholster the set any time soon.

Oh well. That's life I suppose. All I can do is laugh now. I hope my story serves as a lesson: Ladies, if you leave your husband and dog home alone, guard your dining room table carefully!!!

XOXO,

Kelly

It's too Green....

I alluded in my first post that my husband and I have experienced nearly everything that the poor couple in the linked Lowe's commercial had. I don't, however, have pictures for most of the mishaps because, while they are funny memories now, at the time they were anything but amusing.

Mistake #1: Terrible Paint Color Choice. The first two pictures below show the very first paint color I picked for our house. Hazy Jade. Gag. Cut me a little slack though; I was barely 23 and dark, rich colors scared me. In fact, I remember crying at the paint store because Christopher wanted a darker color and I refused and cried to get my way. I cried again though once the paint was on the wall because I realized that nothing in the room really stood out. The last three pictures show the new color, Crocodile. I like it much better.

*Oh, and it should be noted that this bathroom was also the site of our very first remodeling project. Unfortunately, I didn't even think to take "before" photos, but I remember the walls were pink and the shower had glittery, white tiles with yellow linoleum floors and a pink counter top. You're probably wondering why we changed it because the description sounds beautiful, right?? :)

Although I regret not taking "before" photos, I regret even more not taking photos of Christopher's father, John falling through the bathroom floor/kitchen ceiling during this project. The hole remained (sealed with duct tape and garbage bags) for about six months until our kitchen remodel was complete! It was super classy... :)
